Some of the largest projects undertaken by Autopro have been in the pulp and paper industry. Many of our consultants and engineers are experts in various mill and pulping operations.
Our rigorous controls engineering methods have been a welcomed addition to many expansion and modernization project teams. The controls systems technical knowledge and experience Autopro brings to such projects help mills incorporate the best new technology with minimal impact to a client's business development, construction, start-up and post start-up. This reputation has lead a number of forest products companies to select Autopro as their electrical, instrumentation and process control consultant of choice.
Autopro can add value to a company's automation technology by creating applications that go beyond process control. We have demonstrated in the pulp and paper sector that incorporating lab test, real time and historical data into analytical applications can improve operational and maintenance efficiency, as well as the quality and management of information.
Examples of projects Autopro has done in the pulp and paper industry include:
- Brownstock washing supervisory controls and flexible dilution factor control system. Services included a process study and review of operational practices, control strategy development, software implementation and tuning.
- Pulp mill modernization. A five-year project that replaced automation systems for all process areas of a 900 TPD Kraft pulp mill. Scope included migration of controls from relay/analog controls and older systems to the latest Honeywell DCS and Modicon PLC infrastructure. Responsibility included scope definition, detailed engineering, software implementation, construction management and commissioning. (1,100 analog loops and 3,800 discrete 1/0).
- Waste wood fuel boiler. The installation of an Electrostatic Precipitator and ash handling system on an existing waste wood fuel boiler in a kraft pulp mill demanded a full spectrum of services from Autopro including the preparation of cost estimates, hardware and software engineering, software implementation, commissioning and start-up support.
