The materials management sector typically uses HMI and PLC technologies and a host of different software packages. Autopro's engineers and technicians understand the capabilities and limitations of technologies commonly used in the industry. That's why we are able to design controls that complement and interface smoothly with existing processing systems.
We also understand the economic cycles of materials management. This knowledge is reflected in our information system designs, which provide the data clients need to forecast and react appropriately to variable production and market demands. Examples of projects Autopro has done in the materials management industry include:
- Chip thickness system automation. Project included the instrumentation, software and electrical design, construction, installation and commissioning of a new wood chip conditioning, screening and conveying system.
- Radio frequency bale dryers. Services included automation system architecture planning, software functionality specifications, preliminary engineering and cost estimates for the installation of four 100KW bale dryers into an existing alfalfa bale drying facility.
- Log canter installation. This project consisted of designing and replacing a Chip 'n Saw unit with new control system hardware and software to analyze optimum cutting strategies and maximize production of dimensional lumber. The machine is controlled by an Allen Bradley 5/15 PLC, a Banner scanner system with Byronic scanner software implemented on a stand-alone personal computer. The chipper heads of the CNS are positioned by A-B 1771-QB servo controllers utilizing Temposonics linear displacement transducers.
